The Conquest of Happiness
Philosophy
Russell's 1930 self-help philosophy — not advice for the unhappy but a diagnosis of the causes of unhappiness and a case that most of them are self-inflicted. Divided into two parts: the causes of unhappiness (competition, boredom, fatigue, envy, the sense of sin, persecution mania, fear of public opinion) and the causes of happiness (zest, affection, family, work, impersonal interests, effort and resignation). Written in Russell's characteristically lucid, unpretentious prose; one of his most widely read books.
